Many of my friends used to love posting their status on Yahoo Messenger to let the friends know what they’re up to, what they feel at that moment, what song they’re listening to. Often they expressed their anger or frustration toward someone or something we know nothing about and wondering if it’s just a media of expression or do they want us to respond it ? Some even use it for political statement! But YM is limited to be viewed by your online buddyies only.
Another instant messenger I use is Skype-where you could also post a message (my ex-boss stated she hates message on Skype, it’s a pity, I always wanted to know what she’s up to when she’s not in the office …:p)
Then there is this social network called Friendster, where you can post your pictures (see my profile, click that link!), meet your ex-high school mate-that you still hate :), post a bulletin, give testimonial about your friends, and they have this shout out box, same function as the post status thing on YM : let people & friends know about your mood and what you’re doing.
This time the scope is bigger because anyone could see your profile, either through a search or a friend connection.
The biggest social network now I could say is no doubt : Facebook, who just turned 5 couple days ago (CONGRATS!!), leaving MySpace and Friendster behind in terms of fans. But what I love the most from Facebook is their What Are You Doing space on top of your profile, to say : Febriola is……………,or Aunt Judy is…. (see this hilarious cartoon of why a person choose NOT to be on FB-lol). Admit it, you must expect people to comment on your status, specially when you sort of make a hanging statement leaving your friends curious and want to know more about it.
And lastly for status posting addict, you now have another new toy that could satisfy your hunger of making people know what you’re doing by hour, even by second, lots of celebrities, politicians use this, you won’t believe that Downing Street 10 admin replied to my direct message I sent to him (so his name is Ian). Not to mention : Al Gore, Shaquille O’Neal (the Real SHAQ!!), MCHammer, Lance Amstrong. YES, it’s the era of TWITTER!
I know one friend who would love to post her status every second, and she did sign up to Twitter 🙂
And I found another very funny cartoon about Twitter addict to say obsessed user of this is like giving statement that you have no life??
I just love this tool specially when I read anything new on the web from Pete Cashmore-one of the top celeb on web who owns Mashable, a social network & social media, probably the biggest now. He’s always fresh like milk!
Just want to know if you’re a big fan of these ‘what you’re doing’ tools, and which one do you prefer the most?
And do you really need the necessity to let people know your state of mind?
“what you’re doing tools” trend is like being a part of important things to do in my life today. Sometimes I prepare what to write the night/the day before. To me Letting people know my feelings and my update expression is a new sensation!
I am the one who love doing this every minutes in facebook instead of Twiter (just join and expect more followers/ings on the list).
